What the Widget Captures
A plain-English inventory of the data the SmartAlex Widget collects, why, and what happens to it. The business that installs the Widget (the controller) decides which features are enabled, so not every category applies to every installation.
Categories
| Category | What it is | Why | Shared with ad platforms? | Consent bucket |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Identifiers you provide | Name, email, phone, and anything you type or say when asked | To answer you, follow up, and record your enquiry as a lead | Only as a hashed value, only where you consented and the business enabled it | Functional; Marketing when forwarded as a conversion |
| Conversation content | The text of a chat, and the transcript and summary of a voice call | To hold the conversation, produce a transcript and summary, and capture the lead | No | Functional |
| Interaction and technical data | Device and browser type, coarse location inferred from IP, the page you are on, and interaction events | To make the Widget work, measure performance, and prevent abuse | Aggregated performance only; never raw identifiers without consent | Functional; Marketing for analytics |
| Attribution data | Campaign parameters in the page URL and advertising click identifiers | To attribute a lead or call to the campaign that produced it | Yes, where you consented and the business enabled the pixel | Marketing |
| Derived data | Lead status, intent signals, and conversation outcomes | To help the business prioritise and respond | No | Functional |
Principles that always apply
Deny by default for marketing: nothing in the Marketing bucket is collected or forwarded until a valid consent signal permits it, and a recognised opt-out such as the Global Privacy Control stops it. Hashing before sharing: identifiers used to match a conversion are hashed on the server before they leave, never sent in the clear. Per-business partitioning: data is kept separate per business; we do not build a profile of you across different businesses' sites and do not sell your data. No model training: your conversation content is not used to train or improve any AI model. Sensitive audiences: on sites declared as directed to children or handling health or wellness data, the advertising pixel is switched off entirely.
Your controls
Through the Widget's "Your data" panel you can see what has been captured about you in the current session, see and change your consent, and request a copy or deletion of your data. Requests are serviced by the business that operates the site, with SmartAlex's tooling.
